5.0 out of 5 stars Aliens at their best, 26 Oct 2005

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Being an alien among humans cannot be easy. Wen Spencer's Ukiah Oregon series is probably one of the better ones I've read. Following Ukiah from his discovery by his moms to this book has shown development of character. Ukiah is definitely three-dimensional to me and this is one book (or rather series) that I would recommend wholeheartedly.

In this book Ukiah's alien-enhanced abilities are put to the test when the police request his assistance in tracking a missing boy who has a habit of getting lost and being found in unusual places. The authorities fear that the kid's latest disappearance may be linked to a series of kidnappings.

Then Ukiah suddenly finds himself under scrutiny by Homeland Security. Agents have discovered a dead member of the Temple of New Reason cult with stolen photographs of Ukiah in his possession. The government suspects that the connection exists between the sect and Ukiah, one even he can't identify.

But before Ukiah can investigate the cult's interest in him, his own son is abducted. Now, with suspicious government agents watching his every move, he must track down the kidnappers - and pray that they are not enemies from his past - the alien Ontongard looking for revenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strength to strength!, 31 May 2003
By J. Patterson - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I found Wen Spencer quite by chance and have found her to be an excellent writer with some unique ideas. In Bitter Water, Wen carries on developing all of her characters in the detail that allows you to care about what happens to them whilst maintaining a strong plot that gives further answers to any questions about Ukiah's heritage. Suspense, romance and sci fi all blend into a book that i'll read time and again.

As always the book leaves a couple of questions unanswered, a few links to tie off, but that just adds to the richness of the experience.

I can't recommend this trilogy (or author) enough... cults, FBI, new ervelations... its great!
