5.0 out of 5 stars Best Star Trek Spin-off I have read!, 7 July 2003
This was probably the best Star Trek spin-off book I have read so far. It would have made a great episode. The premise of having the crews infected by an alien being is not a new one, but it is well written and makes for a tense and exciting story. Fans of Vulcans will appreciate the Vulcan aspects, and Worf and Deanna feature prominently as well. Although Alexander is in it, he isn't that annoying and you'll probably be pleased to know that Wesley isn't in the story.
I would definitely recommend this story as compulsive reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ended with a Hull Breach, 19 May 2003

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This title of this review isnt what happens to the Enterprise at the end of the book! As the previous reviews says, the end is a bit of a downturn. However much has to be said for the main body of the book. There is a genuine sense of paranoia and anxiousness developing as the author guides you through the corridors of the Enterprise where an entity is determined to take hold. Who do you trust? There are few Star Trek books that i will want to read through in one day, this is not one of them. Picard when he succumbs to the Entity is portrayed quite effectively as terrified. Riker, well you dont notice much difference (still an egotist). Most other characters are just side shows, and once again poor La Forge is left on the sidelines.

The ending is the only let down. Troi seems to revert to the sort of lines we here in the first season of the Star Trek: the Next Generation (the episode with the flying jellyfish - or Encounter at Farpoint).

The rating loses a star because of this, beyond that, this would make good Halloween reading, or those nights when your house is very quite.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Top quality!, 10 Mar 2000
By A Customer
What is a tense and exciting setup is let down by a drippy, cop-out ending. Despite this the authorS do not disappoint, this is a great novel. Even better I didn't pay anything, I won it in a competition!
