4.0 out of 5 stars A feast of greed, sex and power. Addictive!, 19 Nov 2001
By donlyndon@tinyworld.co.uk (Somerset, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fools Die (Paperback)
If you're expecting a mafia story in the same vein as The Godfather, The Last Don or The Sicilian -forget it. This book is short on "Dons" but high on human excess. The plot revolves around a character called "Merlyn" and the people that he meets, and then becomes involved with over a period of time. There are some neat twists in the story, and it wasn't until deep into the novel that I realised why it's called "Fools Die". The back cover of the book has a puzzling synopsis of the storyline as it talks about Merlyn and his brother Artie obeying "their own code of honour". Don't be mislead by this...it isn't right...again, I repeat this isn't about the mafia and their "omerta".

If you want to be entertained and "wowed" at the same time read this NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Never a film, 23 Sep 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Fools Die (Paperback)
If you are interested in the behind scene's action of the casino's as I am then this book will entertain you. If you are interested in the behind scene's of film making then this book will entertain you. It gives you more inside information than ever before. This is one of his best novels but totally different from what you probably expect from Mario Puzo. He has delved into the psyche of the main characters like never before from the one hit wonder novelist to the jaded/aged prime author to the casino employee striving to reach the top. All three characters intertwine to make this a great read. This is a unusual novel because it is the first book that I have come across that I have found that could never be made into a successful film as there was no real end but instead a move forward after events. I would recommend this book to anyone
