From the Author

Great food that just happens to be Lactose-Free!
My cookbook is different...it's stuffed with recipes that are great, and they just happen to be Lactose-Free. Imagine having Lasagna, Cheesecake or Ice Cream without any pain or discomfort? And people who aren't Lactose Intolerant, fighting with you over the last piece of Fudge, without anyone knowing it's Lactose Free! It's all possible with my book. No more feeling left out, watching others enjoy your favorite foods. You'll be digging in with the rest of them. I've added lists of store brand foods that are safe, substitutes that work without sacrificing taste and experiences we can all relate to! Give yourself or someone you love a choice...something they haven't enjoyed for awhile...great food everyone will love that just happens to be Lactose-Free!

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, if only it had been published as a UK version, 3 Nov 2000
By A Customer
The background information of what lactose intolerance is, and what problems it causes was very well researched and explained. However the biggest problem with this book is that it is not intended for the UK market as brands given are mostly not available here.

Basically, if you have been lactose intolerant for many years and know which products are a substitute for milk based items, then you could make use of this book. If you are new to lactose intolerance then I would suggest you steer clear until you are confident of finding UK equivalent products.

The only other drawback is that all measurements are given as US (I appreciate that US editions would!), so just bear in mind that "cups" are the units of the day and not grams or ounces!

If there was a UK version with as much detail as the US version, I would buy it without hestitation

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really suitable for the UK, 16 Mar 2000

The recipe ideas are very good but the dependence on packet mixes and branded alternatives are disappointing for the UK reader. Many of the recipe ingredients are not available in this country, leaving one unsure as to how to complete the dish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheri Updike has written an awesome cookbook!, 10 Mar 1999
By A Customer
I've been having a rather difficult time coping with lactose intolerance. It's hard being a college student and finding "safe" foods to eat. Thanks to Sheri's book, I'm able to enjoy good food again, without the terrible consequences. I recieved my book yesterday, and immediately made the "Cheesy Pasta Bake". It is delicious! My roommates, who aren't lactose intolerant, thought I used real cheese when they tasted it! Thank you so much Sheri!
