Product Description

From the Author

Author invites feedback for ongoing research
Caffeine Blues is the culmination of more than a decade of research into the effects, side effects and "politics" of this amazing drug. But the book itself has sparked an entirely new level of research as feedback from readers pours into my e-mail (cherniske7@aol.com) and website (caffeineblues.com). In fact, it is likely that there are millions of people who are adversely affected by the caffeine in coffee, tea, soft drinks, common medications and hidden in a rapidly growing list of foods and beverages.

FDA does not presently require the amount of caffeine to be declared on a food or beverage label. In fact, manufacturers can use non-coffee sources of caffeine (such as guarana, kola nut or bissy nut) and completely avoid disclosure that the product contains caffeine!

If you have a story to tell concerning your experience with caffeine, please contact me so that I can include it in material that I am presenting to the FDA. The American Medical Association and the Center for Science in the Public Interest have both tried unsucessfully to convince FDA to require accurate caffeine labeling. Perhaps a more grass-roots effort with up-to-date research and thousands of personal stories will succeed.

Thank you! Stephen A. Cherniske

5.0 out of 5 stars finally, the incentive I need to kick the coffee habit, 5 May 1999
By A Customer
I like this book so much, I've been sending copies to my friends -- something I've never done before. For years, I've read about the harmless effects of caffeine, but deep down, I knew it was causing some very negative feelings.

This book explains everything and points out dozens of things you've never suspected. The writing is both engaging, scientific, and thoroughly convincing.

I highly recommend it to anyone who suspects caffeine plays a part in their mood and overall health. You will be amazed at the numbers of ways it may be interfering with your well-being.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and well researched., 24 Feb 1999
By A Customer
I have been trying to give up caffeine, in the form of coffee and diet coke, for years but was unsuccessful. I had all the symptoms described in the books and it was clear that I was addicted to caffeine even though I only drank two mugs a day. The book provided me with the much needed incentive, reason and "support" go kick my caffeine addiction. I felt exhausted, depressed and had a foggy brain for the first four days but now I feel great. Thank you for writing the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone trying to kick the caffeine habit, 7 Feb 1999
By A Customer
Finally, a book that gives some documentation and insight into a substance that I've thought was suspect for quite some time. The symptoms checklists and self evaluations within the book are great. It lets you see the extent that caffeine is affecting your quality of life, not to mention the health problems it may be causing you. I'm on the "off the bean" program outlined in chapter 10 and feeling great. As Stephen Cherniske, M.S. mentions throughout the book, try the "off the bean" program. If it doesn't work you can always go back to caffeine. No way I'd ever go back. Two thumbs up. Great book
