5.0 out of 5 stars Another very good book, 4 Aug 2004
By A Customer
This is another very good book by Sue-Ellen Welfonder set in Scotland. It gives you the story of Sir Marmaduke who we first met in Devil in a kilt.
If like me you enjoy finding out what happens to secondary characters from previous books you will definatly enjoy this one. Although it is a seperate story that works by itself if you have not read Devil in a kilt.
The story is very well written!

I cannot agree with a previous reviewers comments about the "...history slashed from their books to make the smaller size book lengths..." Especially considering this book is no different in length to any others by this author including those the same reviewer has highly praised!

I would highly recomend this book it is well worth reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as her previous books, 1 Feb 2003

I was looking forward to reading about Sir Marmaduke who we met in Devil in a Kilt. Marmaduke is asked to go and help Duncan's sister-in-law Caterine who is being pestered by the local villian. When he arrives at Lady Caterine's castle she is very upset to find out that he is English. Now I know that American authors like to make us the villains but I am getting a bit fed up with it, but of course Sir Marmaduke doesn't like the English either so that is alright. Anyway Lady Caterine doesn't like the English because she was raped by them and her first husband was killed in front of her but she is very attracted to Marmaduke and they do get married but she has no intention of giving her heart to him. Most of the book is taken up with Marmaduke trying to make love to her and he seems to be in a permenant state of erection, she does allow him to use his tongue (if you know what I mean) and it is a wonder it didn't fall off. I am not a prude but at times this book borders on the porn, I could also do without being told that Caterine was quite hairy!! it is not until near the end that the nasty villian meets his just deserts and they live happily ever after. I am giving this book four stars because I think too much is made of the sexual side of the couple. It started out with such promise as I was hoping Marmaduke would have his own story. I hope Ms Welfonder does a bit better with her next book Master of the Highlands. Less graphic sex and more tender story lines.
