3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of Pattersons Best but ith a Great 'Bad'guy, 15 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Hide and Seek (Paperback)
This novel has definite good points, but also some bad and slightly predictable ones that made me skim read parts.
The lead character Maggie is quite a typical 'naïve' woman who stumbles from one unsuitable relationship to the next, seemingly blinded by what is going on under her nose. Her supposed talent for singing and playing the piano is tiresome - she apparently reaches so many people that the whole population suck up to her every time they see her because her lyrics are so 'deep'. Mmmn.
The redeeming feature is the baddy of the book - Will - who is a great character, glib, smart, and utterly evil, he is a time bomb waiting to go off. As for the ending - it was good and quite thought provoking - however it did seem quite unlikely and wasn't explained too well.
I'd definitely suggest you read this for entertainment value, it's a good book by normal standards but not up to Pattersons other works.

This review is from: Hide and Seek (Paperback)
hide and seek was a thriller from the start! I couldnt put it down i received my copy on monday and had it read by wednesday evening. the lead chracter maggie keeps you hooked she has had a rough ride to start of her life but makes herself into a multimillion pound singer.
she feels she has recovered from the murder of her first husband by her own hands! Then she falls in love again only for that to end in tradgedy We her about Will through and story and learn to both love and hate him intensley he is truly crazy, scary and evil. But Maggie falls for him and marries her true love. But Maybe now this is the worst part of her life. As she fights for her freedom after being charged with wills murder but did she do it? The main thing maggie has in her life through all this is her two children and best friend Barry. Its a must read!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow and 'too' Fictional !, 6 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Hide and Seek (Paperback)
I've really enjoyed Patterson in the past. This book however left me cold. The story line is shallow and the narative just doesn't build the characters. Will (the male lead) from his roots in USA...is sent to England...plays 1st Division football and scores twice for the USA in a World Cup Final against Brazil (in Rio) all within a few chapters. It seems patterson had other things to occupy him when writting this....I only hope he was concentrating on his next novel...which I am about to read. Oh...and Patterson likes to repeat himself...time and time again...either he forgot what he wrote 2 pages earlier or he thought we might forget!!
