5.0 out of 5 stars Voyueristic Heaven, 29 Jul 2002
This review is from: Sex (Hardcover)
This book contains many stunningly shot & thought provoking photos of this century's most famous icon and her personal ideas, thoughts & fantasies about sex.

The enormous range of images will have you returning again & again to this fascinating book.

Not for the prudish, sexually repressed or old fashioned romantic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply SEX, 3 Jul 2004
This review is from: Sex (Hardcover)
Madonna's first foray into the world of publisihing was her spiral bound, coffee table book 'SEX'. When it was first released globally (although it was banned in some countries) in 1992 the critics savaged Madonna on what they thought was just an egocentric pop star wanting some attention and to shock people. It would take Madonna a number of years before she could shake off the negative feelings towards her as a result of this book. As a result, many of her other projects at the time of it's release were completely overshadowed, most notably one of her strongest albums 'Erotica' which suffered poor sales. But with over a decade since the release of 'SEX' and the passing of the controversey, many people saw it as an act of rebellion, liberation and of feminism too with Madonna never being portrayed the victim in the photographs (even when she was), because people know that Madonna was in control of the situation. The book itself consists of various photographs shot by Steven Miesel in Los Angeles and Miami and features appearnces by Issabella Rossilini and Naomi Campbell. The essays in this book deal with sex (of course) but more to do with empowerment and a break from the sexual taboos that dog society. The essays are all written under the guise of Madonna being Dita Parlow, who also makes an appearance on the album 'Erotica'.

Over all this book garnered so much outrage and controversy probably because of the fact that it was Madonna who was responsible for it but this is a fantatsic piece of Madonna's art and definently a collectors item for any fan!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Barely Legal - fully nude Madonna in Metallic porn book, 14 Aug 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sex (Hardcover)
What a great book. Madonna brings erotica to life with a book exploring her own sexuality and the hidden world of fetisihism. Madonna as submissive, as dominatrix, as prostitute, as lesbian, as porn star. Full beaver shots. Nothing left to the imagination !! Photographs by Steven Meisel and members of his studio; edited by Glenn O'Brien; art direction by Fabien Baron. Illustrated by over 100 color & b/w photos. Celebrities photographed with Madonna include Naomi Campbell, Isabella Rossellini, Big Daddy Kane, Vanilla Ice and more. A great book.
