Product Description
Written by respected lecturers with a wealth of experience within the field, this unique book provides a problem-based approach to understanding psychological and social difficulties that people often experience and present to podiatrists. The organisation of the book around real case studies emphasizes the practical side of the subject and ensures that the cultural, gender and social issues that confront the podiatrist are all considered. With their awareness of the undergraduate syllabus together with the concrete issues facing practising podiatrists, the authors have provided a clear and highly readable text that will be an indispensable guide to students and practitioners alike in preparing intellectually and emotionally for the range of situations they will encounter in their practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best buy for a new Podiatry student (my opinion)!, 18 May 2003
By Gary Denby (DAVENTRY, Northants United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is the most helpful paperback that I've bought in my first year as a Podiatry student!

It takes many simple case studies of likely first patients such as: elderly patient, just berieved; anorexic teenager; HIV patient; middle aged workaholic; an elderly patient caring for others, but neglecting herself etc. It adds to this their background and presenting problems. Then it goes on to discuss various influencing factors, approaches that you might take as a Podiatrist and so on, with simple references to appropriate psychologic or sociolical theories. An easy read.

This is a great confidence-booster for those just setting out with trembling scalpel in-hand, giving a wider holistic approach than simple(!) biomechanics or physiology. It helps you to think a bit more about the whole person, above the knee! Just what we budding Podiatry students have been looking for. Many thanks to Anne Mandy et al.

4.0 out of 5 stars Psychosocial Aspects to Podiatry, 25 May 2005
By A Customer
This book is easy to read and gives a wide selection of the types of patients you might encounter as a podiatrist. It helps you to consider ways of approaching treatments that not only address the problem at hand but are mindful of the patients social, emotional and physical state as well. I think that this book is useful for anyone considering taking up the profession or who is a first year student about to embark on their first clinical placement.
