Product Description

Product Description

A problem-based textbook of psychiatry for the medical student. This book presents the core of information that students have to know. Each chapter contains case histories followed by the development of the case through questions and answers. The chapter also presents a synopsis of aetiology, clinical features, course of illness and treatment. There are boxes for summaries of key points and chapters end with a selection of self-assessment material. This book reflects the move towards a problem-based approach to teaching in medical schools. More responsibility is given to students for their own learning, and this book is geared towards self-directed learning and will prepare the student for examinations. Furthermore it can be used to supplement more traditional texts in schools where the transition to problem-based learning is incomplete. The cases are taken from community, general practice and hospital settings and are geared towards the student who will use psychiatry in the general practice or general hospital physician setting. Features: * Only psychiatry textbook to reflect new problem-based courses * Presents the core of information that students have to know * Case history approach presents development of each problem * Includes useful self-assessment material for exam preparation * Questions and explanatory answers guide the student through thinking processes of diagnosis and management * Key points summaries enhance the book?s usefulness
