Product Description

Product Description

The aim of the present book is to give a detailed account of the theory of Chinese medicine and acupuncture based on rigorous reference to ancient and modern Chinese books, as well as to explain its application in a Western practice. The theory covered is common to both acupuncture and Chinese herbalism. In addition, it discusses the use of the acupuncture points in detail and the principles of treatment. Maciocia has had many years of experience in practising and teaching Chinese medicine. He believes that despite its origin some hundreds of years before Christ, that it can be used to successfully diagnose and treat 20th century health problems, generated by a life-style very different from that of the ancient peasant society, from which Chinese medicine originated. He considers that the simplicity of Chinese medicine makes it truly universal, so that it can be applied to any society at any time.

4.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive introduction to Chinese Medicine., 1 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This book is a must for students of Acupuncture. Starting with basic principles explained in simple English, it takes the reader through to more complex concepts and discussions of patterns of diagnosis and treatment suggestions.

4.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive introduction into Chinese medicine, 23 Oct 2000
By Spannerpan "Anna" (Birkenhead England) - See all my reviews
This book is a good introduction for acupuncturists. It outlines the functions of the organs from a Chinese viewpoint, and deals with some common disharmonies. It is lacking in it's descriptions of the channels and the actions of the acupuncture points of the body. However it is written in a clear style, and I would recommend it to anybody startig a course in acupuncture.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for life!, 30 Dec 2008
By AikiGirl (Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This is an excellent book for acupuncturists, shiatsu practitioners & co. It might be expensive, but I think it's worth the investment. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface & will be reading it for many years to come. I looked at the older version, but the layout in this one is much better.
