What I required was a book to explain the basic of JPEG. This book may be good as a reference book but for me it assumed too much and used too many acronyms to be useful. Before reading the book I understood the DCT algorithm and purpose, understood the quantisation and purpose for doing so. I even knew a little of the compression standards and learnt a little more of this from the book. Despite having a grounding in JPEG algorithms I felt I learned very little from this book and still looking for a good text which doesn't try and explain things to an already knowledgeable person.
