4.0 out of 5 stars Von Bek Book 2, 29 Jul 2006

(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This is a direct sequel to `The War Hound and The World's Pain' and once again follows a member of the Von Bek family as they quest for the Holy Grail. Where the earlier book was a fairly straightforward tale however `The City In The Autumn Stars' is a very much more weighty prospect, with Moorcock matching his fantasy adventures with a dense literary style, as the struggle between the rational and bestial aspects of mankind are explored from the French Revolution all the way up to a grand plan to unite man and woman in an androgynous anti-Christ figure and remake the universe. Perhaps a little long and rambling at times, but if you can stay the course you'll be find this one of Moorcock's most rewarding fantasy novels.
