Though homeless, Matilda "Matt" Black can never truly be alone because she can communicate with inanimate objects. She never felt the urge for human companionship until she met white witch Edmund Reynolds. Edmund is on a spiritual quest to help those in need.

Matt learns that Edmund is actually divided into three component pieces; the boy he was, the man he has become, and an individual who performed a horrible act that he cannot recall. Matt helps Edmund integrate the boy with the man, but fails when she tries to assist him with the missing memory that forced him to leave his hometown. A living house and a ghost point the duo in the direction of a woman, Susan who has the answers to complete the Edmund puzzle. However, this means Susan must travel back into her own past, an act she refuses to do.

RED HEART OF MEMORIES is a wonderful odyssey into a world filled with magic that Mina Kiriki Hoffman successfully blends into a plausible environment. Ms. Hoffman, a Stoker winner, provides a lyrical character-driven journey that brings out the best in fantasy. The enjoyable story line may just mean this highly regarded best selling author could be award-bound again.
