Product Description

Product Description

Christmas comes but once a year. Luckily...The Christmas holiday is, traditionally, a time when families gather together. In Ralph's case, this means ten or more relatives coming to stay, including assorted aunts and uncles, nutty Great-Aunt Ida (the Home tells them to be careful not to let her out) and his ghastly cousins: Titania in her silly, sick-making frilly fairy dresses and the twins Sylvester and Sylvia (it took until Easter last year before the family dog got over them). Jammed into one small house for three days of merriment and family fun, with the TV on the blink and Mum on the verge of a breakdown, it soon becomes obvious that, in this house, more definitely does not mean merrier...

From the Back Cover

Three days of family fun?

Cousin Titania is writing soppy notes to Santa.
Uncle Tristram is chucking potatoes at the cat.
And Mum is on the verge of a breakdown.

4.0 out of 5 stars witty and wonderful!, 25 Mar 2008
By Mehajabeen Farid "Mej_da_reviewer" (Coventry) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: The More the Merrier (Hardcover)
Anne Fine is a children's laureate. She is the famous author of The Diary of a Killer Cat, Loudmouth Lois, A Puff of Glittering Smoke and others. This book is about Christmas! It is about how Ralph's house is not big enough to fit all of the guests in. Find out how he manages to (just about) cope with all this festive mayhem and seasonal madness - it is a real problem! Will it be merrier with more and more and more coming in? Find out in this book...
This book is quite good although many parts are boring and some parts are just thrilling. I think that Anne Fine's quality of writing has just gone down and would rate this book 7.5/ 10. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a witty diary sort of story.

5.0 out of 5 stars An alternative Christmas tale!, 7 April 2006
This review is from: The More the Merrier (Hardcover)
Well I annoyed my husband no end by chuckling constantly throughout reading this book. I feel like I know all of Ralph's relations personally through Anne Fines efortlessly 'very true' writing. Ralph's extended family portrait is not pretty but absolutely hilarious; with backbiting, scheming, seething resentment, exhaustion and all the general selfish, take family for granted kind of things that happen... I think I might go on holiday myself next Christmas!

4.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Escapism, 5 Dec 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The More the Merrier (Audio CD)
I found that this audio CD was a great christmas present as it was a story about the horrors of christmas and it helped me hide away from the dreaded relatives at christmas time dissolved in this wonderful novel.

This was an extremely funny book. Anne Fine must have been involved in a similar family gathering herself. Read more
