Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Teen singing sensation Britney Spears joins forces with her mother , Lynne, to bring a rags-to-riches, poor-girl-to-princess tale to life in A Mother's Gift.

Holly Faye Lovell lives with her mother, Wanda, in small town America where she spends her time singing in the church choir and dreaming of superstardom. When her car-mechanic boyfriend helps secure her an audition at the prestigious Haverty School of Music in Hattiesburg, she is offered a full scholarship.

But at Haverty, Holly's provincial ways make her an easy target for snobbish bullies. Of course, Holly determines to show them what she is really made of...

With a healthy dose of teen angst combined with the every-girl-must-have-a-dream-= theme, this nifty little book will certainly appeal to Britney fans who just can't get enough of their idol.

It certainly isn't brain surgery, and in places it is more than a little treacly, but it's not a bad effort. (Age 9 to 12) --Susan Harrison --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars A read if you feel like something light, 9 April 2002
By A Customer
This debut novel from Britney and her mum is closely linked to Britney and her feelings, so reading this not only gives you a touching story, but you get to learn a little more about Britney.

This version is exactly the same as the hardback version but softback and if you want to just have a relaxing read then I'd go for this version, but if you're a fan then the hardback version would be better.

I really enjoyed reading this when I was bored the other week. I'd recommend everyone to have a go at seeing what Britney's true thoughts are about stardom, family and singing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving, tear-jerking masterpiece. Couldn't be better., 11 Jun 2001
By A Customer
There is no doubt that this is a truly brilliant book. The separation of Holly from her mother is truly depressing, but I could not put the book down. The use of language is excellent, with metaphors and similes that will have you on the edge of your seat. The plots and sub-plots are so amazingly sewn together, and I cried repeatedly. It is hard to believe this is Britney and Lynne Spears' first novel - I mean, how well-done is this book? I know! Britney has a great singing voice, like the character, Holly. Coincidence? When it came to the secret, I wanted to go to the pub but I just stayed home reading this book, it was such as masterpiece. Well, this is a truly beautiful, expertly-written classic, and if this wins the Pulitzer, of which I am doubtful that it won't, I will be more than pleased. They should make this into a movie, and they'll have no problem packing me into the cinema, no matter how much the tickets cost! If you read a better book, and that is barely possible, please tell me. The character Holly is full of moving information, with wonderful similes in between, and her insight into a family is great and money can't provide it. BOOK: Recommended. Read it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars surpisingly enjoyable, 24 Aug 2003
Yes I did quite enjoy reding this. I think it is aimed at a teenage market. The story is so easy to read, even if you stop and start. The story of a young singer keeps you wondering if any of the story is taken from Britney life. But I was left with the thought 'I wonder if they really wrote that?'
Good for Britney fans and teenage girls or adult learners maybe.
Made me smile, so cant be all bad.
