5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource!, 24 Jun 1999
By A Customer
After browsing several 'counter' books, I happened across this one, and I was sold. 500 pages of nothing but carb counts--an absolute MUST for anyone on the Atkin's or Zone carb diets. Broken down by brand in almost unbelieveable detail--there's something like 15 entries for refried beans! And are you having pizza at Pizza Hut? Dominos? and is it sausage? pepperoni? Each one laid out in exact detail. I *highly* recommend this book

1.0 out of 5 stars A complete waste of printing material and money !!!!!, 14 May 2003
After reading the reviews about this book and seeing that it had a 5 star rating I thought it would be the best one of its kind around. However the moment I attempted to use it the horrific truth started settling in. It is written exclusively with the American user in mind, to begin with all the measurements are in Imperial units and the author probably failed to realise that the rest of the world has been using the metric system for quite a few years now and to make matters even worse, some of the measurements are in CUPS so unless you are prepared to do a night raid in the authors kitchen and acquire the cup that she used for her measurements you will be in a spot of trouble working out the exact quantity.
To add insult to injury in most occasions the when giving information about carbohydrate content she shows a tendency to quote various branded products but I would be very surprised if any of the other products that she is quoting have ever sat on the self of a food store outside the U.S. I even tried to look up lemons and yes true enough she is quoting the carb value of Dole lemons.
All in all this book has been a complete waste of money as far as I am concerned, it might prove useful to U.S. readers I could not really comment on that but one thing is for sure, if you live outside the U.S. DO NOT buy it unless you fancy doing a lot of weight conversions and at the same time you can import food from the U.S. at lower prices than you can get it at your local supermarket.

To add insult to injury in most occasions the when giving information about carbohydrate content she shows a tendency to quote various branded products to the extent where she devotes over three pages in her book quoting carbohydrate values for Domino’s Pizza products and although Domino’s Pizza is well known worldwide I would be very surprised if any of the other products that she is quoting have ever sat on the self of a food store outside the U.S. I even tried to look up lemons and yes true enough she is quoting the carb value of Dole lemons.
