5.0 out of 5 stars Another brilliant book by Kjartan Poskitt + Murderous maths, 23 Feb 2002
By A Customer
The seventh Murderous maths book. Again, another amazingly brilliant book, this time explaining in finer detail, geometry, or to be precise, shape. As an avid fan of the Murderous maths books, and Mr Poskitt himself, this witty and tremendously funny book explains certain topics of mathematics that I would never understand in Maths lessons at school. Philip Reeve's cartoons and diagrams add to the book certain comical effects. I love this book because it explains so simply maths that would otherwise be, well, murderous. With phazmacycles, and naked colnels involved, this book will really make you laugh, and you will still learn things without realising, through jokes, sarcasm and clever wit. I give it 10/10.

4.0 out of 5 stars ' .the truth about `Vicious Circles and Other Savage Shapes', 8 Mar 2007
`Guarantee - this book contains absolutely NO SUMS!'

`Is Maths making you miserable?
Are you perplexed by polygons and addled by angles?
Do you sometimes wonder where to stick your compasses?

Then it's time you learned the truth about `Vicious Circles and Other Savage Shapes'.

The colourful, humorous cover opens to 159 pages, split over
8 chapters:-

The secret vault
Locus, focus and a bit of hocus pocus
Everything worth knowing about triangles
Polygons
Vicious circles
Lumps and bumps
Ellipses, whispers and wandering stars
Prove it, Pytho!

written in a variety of fonts in the usual Kjartan Poskitt entertaining style, e.g.:-

`.....Yes, indeed. `Isosceles' actually means `equal legs' and in an `isosceles triangle`, the two angles opposite the equal sides always have to be the same size. It doesn't matter if the triangle is a long pointy one or a short flat one. The fun bit is that it's maths but there are no numbers involved!..........'

Black and white illustrations/cartoons throughout.

Maths as you have never seen it before!
