Product Description

Product Description

Killer Energy will be the 23rd Horrible Science title and brings together a number of strong science themes-heat and cold, nuclear power, recycling and how the human body powers itself-making this is an excellent classroom book as well as a popular playgroundread. There are the usual gory details, such as why going to the loo in space can freeze your pee and which liguid chemical is used to preserve pets. Plus you can find out how your body turns stodgy school dinners into energy, why steaming manure can warm you up and how to build your own geothermal power station. With strikingly different cover and a mass of information, Killer Energy proves that Horrible Science still has a lot of powerful material for turning young stomachs.

4.0 out of 5 stars `Killer Energy' will leave you jumping for more as it is just buzzing with info!', 6 Mar 2007

'If you think you can stomach the `sick' side of Science, then read on as we uncover the burning issues behind Energy.

With fantastic fact files, crazy cartoons and curious quizzes.

144 pages, split over 12 chapters:-

Introduction
The ultimate power
Laying down the laws
Horrible heat
The dead freezing chapter
Killer cold
Horribly powerful fuel
The power to move you
Hot, sweaty body bits
Killer heat
Fearsome fiery furnaces
A power for good?

written in a variety of fonts in the usual Nick Arnold entertaining style.
Black and white illustrations throughout, as well as `Bet you never knew' fact-boxes, e.g.:-
`At the World Sauna Championships, in Finland, people sit in a hot sauna room at temperatures up to 43 degree C (110 F) - this is as hot as some deserts!
The aim is to sweat dirt from the skin but everyone wears swimming costumes because the organisers say it would be rude if they didn't!'

Science has never been so horrible!'

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fantastic read, 11 Oct 2006

I brought this book way back in 2001 and I must say it's very well written. Like all Arnold's books they're very fun to read. This is because he mixed humour into it. This helps you to remember. I love these books and I still collect them!
