4.0 out of 5 stars A good 'follow-on' from the `Famous Lives/Famous People' series, for an older child., 27 Nov 2006
From the popular DEAD FAMOUS series of books `Writers and their Tall Tales`.

`So many writers have become famous for telling tall tales. You can probably think of loads........We couldn`t squeeze them all into this book, otherwise it would have been the size of Grimsby, but the ten writers you`ll meet here are some of the most famous ever..... Read on and find out about the famous writers who created some of the most gripping plots and memorable characters ever - words that are wonderful enough to stand the test of time and still make people laugh and cry today.....see if you can work out what inspired these writers to create tall tales that have changed lives......After all, as someone once said:-
`The pen is mightier than the sword`......`and a lot easier to write with.'

192 pages, split into chapters:-

Introduction
Geoffrey Chaucer and his rather rude poems
William Shakespeare and his popular plays
Jane Austen and her dashing young men
Charles Dickens and his adoring fans
The Bronté sisters and their bothersome brother
Thomas Hardy and his Wessex
James Joyce and his Barnacle
George Orwell and his powerful politics
The final chapter

Written in a variety of fonts with humorous black and white cartoon illustrations throughout, this is a good `follow-on' from the `Famous Lives/Famous People' series, for an older child.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book..., 27 Aug 2005

(REAL NAME)
This book tells you a little about ten famous authors - Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, the three Bronte sisters, Thomas Hardy, James Joyce, and George Orwell. It gives you loads of information about them - birth and death dates, family, what books they've written, and loads of other things! And you don't have to read the whole book, because each author has its own chapter!
