Product Description

Product Description

You've probably heard of a few scientists... - Galileo Galilei and his telescope - Isaac Newton and his apple - Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. But have you heard that... - Galileo was sentenced to life in prison for his shocking ideas about the solar system - Newton wasn't all that keen on science - sometimes it got on his nerves - Darwin wrote a book about his pet worms? Yes, even though they're dead, scientists are still full of surprises - and the nine in this book are more surprising than most. Now you can get the inside story from their lost notebooks, read the news reports as their breakthroughs hit the headlines, and find out all about the mind-blowing experiments! Dead Funny ~ Dead Gripping ~ Dead Famous

4.0 out of 5 stars A good 'follow-on' from the `Famous Lives/Famous People' series, for an older child., 30 Nov 2006
By ABCeDar - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
From the popular DEAD FAMOUS series of books `Scientists and their Mind-Blowing experiments`.

`........another thing about dead famous scientists is that most of them didn`t call themselves that - the word `scientist' was only invented in 1833. What we think of as science - laboratories full of large-brained people, mathematics that makes your brain explode, gigantic machines that go `Hmmmmm` only really got going in the 19th Century..... Before that, science was only done by a few people with enquiring minds and time on their hands.. Most of the dead famous scientists in this book were like that..........'

191 pages, split into chapters:-

Introduction
Aristotle and his Moon creatures
Galileo Galilei and his secret solar system
Isaac Newton and his universal attraction
Michael Faraday and his electrifying experiments
Charles Darwin and his mysterious monsters
Gregor Mendel and his well-bred peas
Louis Pasteur and his world of gems
Marie Curie and her death-rays
Albert Einstein and his laws of time
Science now

Written in a variety of fonts with humorous black and white cartoon illustrations throughout, this is a good `follow' on from the `Famous People/Famous Lives' series of books, for an older child.
