4.0 out of 5 stars A Brillant Book, 24 Nov 2001
By A Customer
The main story of this episode in Jude Watson's gripping stories is abput Qui-gon Jinn after the death of Tahl a fellow jedi knight. Qui-Gon is heart broken after the death of his fellow jedi not only through freindship but also through his love for her, he tries to have revenge on Balog who kidnapped her and kept her in a chamber which damaged her organs and led to her death. Qui-Gon's apprentace Obi-Wan Kenobi is worried at his reaction as jedi should never be prone to vengence, but as the story goes on Qui-Gon seems to be killing people mercilessly as Obi-Wans suspicions rise Qui-Gon's temptation to the dark side of the force mounts and Obi-Wan must do something quickly to prevent it or he will lose a great master with the Jedi will losing a wise, noble Jedi Master

2.0 out of 5 stars A slippery slope., 23 Sep 2004
By Ian Tapley "thefragrantwookiee" - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
THE STORY:
With his beloved Tahl murdered, Qui-Gon sets off on a quest for vengeance against her killer. Meanwhile Obi-Wan, his friend Bant and Master Mace Windu must investigate Tahl's death whilst attempting to avert Qui-Gon's fall to the dark side.

WHAT'S GOOD:
The premise, involving Qui-Gon giving into his desire for revenge is great and I loved the tag line "There is no hope for me now, only vengeance" (very Hollywood action flick-esque).

WHAT'S BAD:
Despite the great premise, it's poorly realised. Qui-Gon doesn't actually fall to the dark side at all, he just fails to follow a few orders and the investigation plot is almost identical to that of the previous book, albeit without the previous book's excellent pacing. Generally speaking, this book was one of the worst in the series (but, in it's defence, the next two are even worse than this!)

5.0 out of 5 stars The fragrant wookiee says:, 27 May 2002
By A Customer
At times the Jedi Apprentice series has seemed a bit stale, but here it gains a whole new depth as the dark side begins to claim a grief stricken Qui-Gon. The last book ended with Qui-Gon's declaration "There is no help for me now, only vengeance." and this book picks up that lead well. It is the slip in Qui-Gon's composure that adds new life to his relationship with Obi-Wan and also breaks the often-boring adherence to the Jedi code. To act as a counterpoint the strict Jedi Master Mace Windu had a larger role than usual, but not nearly as much of one as he deserves. This last episode of the New Apsolon story-arc is full of enough twists to make you dizzy but also enough action to keep you plowing through.
