I wondered how Susan Price would manage to come up with a sequel to The Sterkham Handshake. The ending had seemed pretty final. But she has done it with an idea which once again is original and grips the imagination from the outset.

Andrea is again in Sterkharm country but this time at a slightly different time. The Sterkhams are all there but a bit diffferent, they don't know her and she has to rebuild her relationships all over again. Hard work when the shorthand you thought you had with people is not there. Add that to their innate suspicion of "other" and you know the story is going to be as unpredictable as the Sterkharms.

The new book is definitely on a par with the first one, some of the twists and turns of the plot are breathtaking. The world that has been imagined here is a very real one where people are very human, I sat there willing Andrea on, while knowing that good doesn't necessarily win in the world of the reivers...

My only complaint is that we will now have to wait a while for a third volume. There will be one won't there ??

This book is an excellent sequel to A Sterkarm Handshake. I didn't realize that Sterkarm Handshake might have a sequel--I had imagined Andrea and Per pining away, apart forever. But then I checked Amazon.co.uk for Susan Price books and was very pleased to see that a second book was available.

A Sterkarm Kiss does not disappoint. Andrea faces even greater challenges than she did in the first book, including her affection for the very different Per. The secondary characters are well developed too, and the Joan Grannam subplot was quite surprising. I am a young adult librarian, and I wish more Susan Price books would be released in the U.S so that I could add them to our collection.

Much welcomed, the long awaited sequel to The Sterkarm Handshake. The atmosphere, tensions and vivd descriptions are just as compelling as the first novel. However, be aware that if you bought the first book for an able but younger child to read (11 - 14 years), the sequel has far more adult content. I personally would not reccommend it for anyone under 15. I fell that it is a shame that Susan Price has written a sequel that belongs in the adult section. As an adult, though, it is certainly a cracking read!
