(Many of these already exist.) Instead it offers an inspirational introduction to the `Creative' possibilities of Science for ages 7-11. The book is divided into five chapters. Each chapter contains six experiments and five inventive and stimulating photocopiable support pages. Although there is some overlap, each chapter focuses on one or two areas of investigation, including the themes: Life Processes & Living Things; Materials & Their Properties; Physical Processes; Light and Sound and Scientific Investigation. Each of the alternative and inspiring experiments is based around the 'adventures' of a series of memorable teenage characters. All include `Support' and `Extension' ideas, for those in the class who are more or less able, a `Scientific language' box which highlights any new words learnt during the activity, along with a section of comprehensive and clear `Teacher's notes'. Each of the experiments can be used as part of a larger body of linked work or as a stand alone lesson. All in all this is an excellent volume which a provides ideas and inspiration by the dozen, proving (as the author says in her introduction) that in addition to being useful, Science can also be surprising and fun.
