Slowly but steadily, after a poor start in my view, the Last of the Jedi books have been getting better and Return of the Dark Side set up this book up very well in my opinon. The title "Secret Weapon" could not have been much better either, since it offered a wealth of different possible plotlines. Unfortunately, Watson seems to have chosen the wrong plot in my view, since the old problem I had with the book is back - too many different sub plots. I won't give too much away but on the one hand you have Ferus on Belassa (where he returns), Trevor and co. on Coruscant and yet another discovery of a former Jedi Quest charactor. Surely they cannot have all survived the purge on the Jedi? Ferus I don't mind, Garen I could put up with - but another? Vader and Ferus' relationship handled so well in the last book seems to have taken a nosedive - suddenly Ferus is downbeat and downright scared of Vader compared with the last book in which he was pretty brave in keeping with his charactor. Also, I felt the ending of this book is pretty poor, since Ferus seems to lose the common sense we have got used to him having and "goes mental" before giving in to a revalation from Palpatine that all Jedi seem to give in too.

In summery - decent, but not great compared with the book before. Hopefully, Against the Empire will provide a better plot again.
