THE STORY:
A year before 'Attack of the Clones', Obi-Wan, Anakin and six of their fellow Jedi are sent to the Sith world of Korriban to track down the terrorists Granta Omega and Jenna Zan Arbor. However, a far more dangerous foe lurks in Korriban's ruins; one of the hidden Dark Lords of the Sith.

WHAT'S GOOD:
I loved the fact that the Jedi encounter the Sith, but don't see enough of him to discover his identity (because Anakin describes him as tall, I figure it's got to be Dooku/Darth Tyranus). The ending of the story is very carefully orchestrated to sever any ties Anakin has from the Jedi Quest series in the lead-up to the events of Episode II, having him choose to focus on the aquisition of power. This book also explores some of Anakin's inability to deal with death (but I won't tell you who snuffs it!). I was impressed with Watson's presentation of Korriban, using details and place names from the 'Knights of the Old Republic' computer game effectively. Ultimately, it was good to end the series with the same eight Jedi who featured in the first book, giving a nice sense of closure that the Jedi Apprentice series lacked.

WHAT'S BAD:
I continue to detest Anakin Skywalker, particularly Watson's presentation of him. I understand that the issues he has are building towards his fall to the dark side, but it's just hard to read a book whose main character you want so desperately to slap!
