2.0 out of 5 stars Watson falls into the rut that plagues the series., 16 Sep 2004
By Ian Tapley "thefragrantwookiee" - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
THE STORY:
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan travel to Gala to help with the planetary elections. However, there is a sinister force behind some of the candidates and the true heir to the throne must be found to lead the people against this corruption.

WHAT'S GOOD:
The story is written in Watson's trademark simple-but-adult style and therefore makes for very easy reading, the prose flowing into your eyes without a hitch. I also very much enjoyed the speeder bikes - tank - avalanche scene.

WHAT'S BAD:
The story actually being told here is rather boring and quite similar to that of 'The Hidden Past'. Also this book establishes a precedent for a pre-packaged no-brainer of a story of 'political intrigue' and sadly Watson repeats the formula time and time again in later books.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am glad that Obi- Wan gets a bigger part than his master!, 6 Jan 2001
By A Customer
The Mark Of The Crown is a great book and my favourite character Obi-Wan gets a bigger part than his master. Usually it's just Qui- Gon this, Qui- Gon that, but now Obi- Wan takes over. Anyway I thought the book had an excellent plot where a moral comes into it. The obvious is the answer. Also the true heir bit kind of made me look at the royal family a little differentely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not enough interaction between the two heroes, 2 Jan 2001
An interesting story, but Qui-Gon is a bit under-used and under appreciated in it. Some of us don't find Obi-Wan an interesting enough character to carry nearly a whole book on his own. I'd say this was the worst book in the series. From number 5 onwards it's uphill all the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exicting book about two seperste missions
A cool book and an excellent mystery for Obi- Wan to solve where the obvious is the answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not the best but it is brilliant.
I will say this very simply. The entire 'Jedi Apprentice' series is as excellent as the films. Jude Watson makes you feel as if you are in all the action with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fair and even handed
I thought that this book had a good story line although I found others in the quartet more entertaining . Read more
