5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for Geography teachers, 28 Jan 2001
By A Customer
A great way to making geography lessons more grousome so that pupils will learn with interest and enthusiasm. This was a great motivator for the children who loved hearing about all the problems rivers cause.

4.0 out of 5 stars `Geography has never been such fun before!', 22 Feb 2007

`Does Geography grind you down?
Fed up with miserable maps, rotten rock piles and stultifying statistics?
Wave goodbye to boring geography lessons as you venture into the surging world of Raging Rivers ...........
Gasp! ...at the amazing Grand Canyon - gorged out by an old river.
Scream! ....as you peer over the edge of a roaring waterfall.
Run for your life!...when you come face to face with a peckish piranha.
Tremble!...when you go white-water rafting through hair-raising rapids.

And if that is not outrageous enough for you....join our heroic hydrologists on a turbulent river tour from ice cap to ocean, read the secret diary of a brave river explorer and get to know your watery wildlife with our spotter's guide.

It's earth shatteringly exciting!
Geography has never been so horrible!'

156 pages, split over 10 chapters:-

Introduction
Wild west by river
Going with the flow
Running away to sea
Scraping the bottom
Wet'n'wildlife
Raging river living
Raging river roving
River rage
Revolting rivers

Written with the typical humour of this series of books, in a variety of fonts, interspersed with numerous black and white illustrations/cartoons.

`You may think that rivers aren't good for much except meandering along to the sea. But you're way off course. Even the laziest rivers are hard workers. Running water is horribly powerful. So powerful that, over millions of years, it can change the face of the landscape for ever. (Your teacher's stoniest stare may wipe the smile off your face but even it can't rattle solid rock.) But the water doesn't work alone. The river drags along tonnes of rocks, mud and sand which give it its cutting edge. But how on Earth do they do it? Here's a step-by-step guide to earth-moving erosion.(That's the tricky technical term for the way rivers run over the ground and gradually grind it down. It can all get horribly wearing!)'

An excellent resource to dip into as a teacher - very accessible for students and well illustrated as well as cleverly written.
