5.0 out of 5 stars More than a source book, 29 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This book provides interesting, fresh speeches for every conceivable age, accent, and character... and as such is a valuable sourcebook. But where it really excells is in the advice it gives to actors on the audition process. This advice applies to actors of every level of experience and for most kinds of audition, but particularly useful are the tips on auditioning for Drama schools. This type of selection is a distinct challenge which is often ignored in similar publications, so making this book essential reading for actors at the very begginning of their careers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dont rely on this book, 6 Jul 2004
After a year of auditioning, I would advise that you stay away from this book. From my experience the speeches are very common in auditions. Therefore it is hard to be judged fairly on pieces becuase you can guarantee the audition panel would have heard it 100 times before and they will always compare you to the actress who performed it wonderfully 6 months ago. Also a lot of the speeches are from plays which are of limited availbility or out of print. This means you cannot use those speeches as you should always want to read the play fully before you use the piece. Some of the information about how to audition is useful but this could be obtained from any good acting/ audtioning book at a library.
If its your first time auditioning
STAY AWAY FROM THE PIECES IN THIS BOOK

3.0 out of 5 stars Can you change your accent, 26 Oct 2003
By A Customer
This book is usefull as it gives you infomation about auditioning and choosing a suitable audition piece. I found this infomation very usefull and i have become more confident about auditioning. Although alot of the speachers are not what i am looking for, everyone is different. One of the most usefull thing i found was the introduction for each speach including when the play was first writen and what is going on in the scene the speach is taken from. If you are about to start auditioning I recomend this book.
