5.0 out of 5 stars Pure class, 7 Mar 2003

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
A wonderfully evocative and gripping period thriller reminiscent of the best of Ellroy and Dash Hammett. A dark, labrythine tale of conspiracy and betrayal stretching from 1900 to the 1940s, inexorably ensnaring characters and readers alike, paying off in a bloody, explosive finale. Pure class from beginning to end, a joy intellectually, emotionally and viscerally.

3.0 out of 5 stars not fantastic but not bad, 22 Jan 2008

This review is from: Eureka (Paperback)
This was the first book I had read by this author after my father-in-law recommended it to me. The story spans over several years (which I like) and involves some great characters. A lady is found dead in her bathtub at home and the search for the killer spans back over many years. I did enjoy the story but I felt that the characters were a bit unbelievable and therefore I didn't really connect with them. The plot was very well written but I don't think I will be rushing to buy another book by this author.
