5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating glimpse into a novelist's notebook., 14 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This is a fascinating glimpse into a writer's mind, as he notes down, over 40 years, the ideas, comments, character names, incidents etc that he could make use of in a novel. Even if you haven't read Powell's novels, it's still a thought-provoking and funny read. It is especially fascinating to those who have read his great 12 novel sequence A Dance to the Music of Time, as one can see the genesis of certain scenes and characters, and also ponder the plot twists that were never taken up and the characters who never appeared. I hope that the publication of A Writer's Notebook, together with the recently formed Anthony Powell Society, keep this great writer's work alive in the public's mind.
