2.0 out of 5 stars Once more into the breach dear Doctor, once more!, 8 Jul 2006

Another day, another Virgin New Adventure. To be honest the series has definitely run out of steam and now deserves to be put to bed once and for all. The original idea was a good one but the last few entries have been like an ageing prostitute; tired and jaded and reliant on the same old tricks.
Kate Orman tries valiantly to inject new life into the series but again, an over-reliance on exploring the emotions and ideals of The Doctor's companions, leads to not only an emotional but also a creative cul-de-sac.
Despite the previous reviewers' crude depiction I have to agree that this novel appears to have been thrown together in order to meet a publishers' deadline. The idea of Benny meeting her supposedly dead father is an intriguing one, however Isaac Summerfield is ironically a lifeless and one-dimensional character whilst his secret mission to save aliens abandoned on earth is never really explored to any great degree. Unlike Orman's other New Adventures stories I found this to be at least readable but the sad truth is that she has no avenue to travel down with this Doctor or his companions that hasn't already been explored.

1.0 out of 5 stars ZERO CROWNS ie AWFUL, 24 May 1999
By A Customer
This has to be one of the worst books I have ever read. I get the impression that the author had had a few drinks and typed a whole lot of garbage one night during a bout of alcohol induced insomnia. The end result was this piece of drivel. Rumour has it that Paul Cornell was involved which explains a lot of things. AVOID this book as if your life depended upon it. Its not even fun its just plain awful. I wouldn't even use it to prop up a wonky desk, the thought of someone spotting it and knowing that I had allowed such manure to sully my brain...AAAGH

Kate Orman hs so far contributed only truly good book to the Who novels - The Left Handed Hummingbird. Read it and ignore the rest (and that includes most of the Who books)
