4.0 out of 5 stars Time for a return to form for the Doctor..., 14 Aug 2004
By Barney McGrew "Charlie" (UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This, the second book in the TIMEWYRM tetrarchy, has to rate as one of the most successful attempts to create a convincing 'historical' story for the Doctor. The descriptions of a Britain occupied by the Nazis and all that this might entail are realistic, powerful and quite disturbing.
Ace is on fine form, wielding cans of nitro-nine and appearing rejuvenated after her somewhat lacklustre portrayal in the first of the Virgin New Adventures; whilst the Seventh Doctor has rarely been this feisty! The story dovetails nicely with its predecessor and it's just a shame that the eponymous 'monster' has so little opportunity to rear her demonic head.
All-in-all a satisfying addition to the Doctor Who canon.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant part two of the series, better than genesys., 13 Jun 2007
yes, the doctor and ace's relationship are far more believable and true to their style in this second timewyrm story. and the rest of the story is even better than timewyrm genysys. this book by doctor who veteran terrance dicks is very readable and very believable. a good and pretty accurate tale of what the nazis really must have been like. all the main four third reich leaders, hitler, geobbels, goering and himmler are all realistic and are at times disturbing. all the many different elements work well in this story, with history being mucked up by the war lords and the timewyrm too, and every character gets quite a good amount of stuff to do. another great tale from terrance, hes one of my fav doctor who story writers.
