2.0 out of 5 stars Selfish Unlikeable characters!, 14 Jun 2009
By Kitty Pang (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book based on the excellent review, but I struggle to finish the story. Really, I found Katherine's actions were all about herself without any regard to the impact of her actions to her parents; Alain (the "hero") had nothing to recommend him - evil intention to seduce Katherine for money and didn't trust her with his real identity and not to mention anything else about himself and his family even after he "realized he loves her"! Gave 2 stars for the original post-french revolution background and the beautiful cover in my favourite green colour. Don't waste your money on this one, read Ms Hingston's "Most Reckless Lady" instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL GEM!, 23 April 2004
I think this is one of the sweetest, most romantic regency love stories Ihave read in ages. It tells the story of Lady Katherine Deveraux, thehaughty , snobbish and sptieful duke's daughter, and how she is brought tolove herself and others as she discovers true love, 'the other half of hersoul' with an adventurer. I came to both like and understand LadyKatherine, and as for her lover, Alain, then wow! Talk about sexy. Hepersuades Katherine to first rescue him from a murder charge, then runaway to the french countryside and live in sin with him whilst living likea peasant, crushing grapes with her bare feet. When their idyll isdisturbed by the outside world and the recognition of her as a duke'sdaughter, she returns home and engages herself to a very 'worthy' man, butin the end, true love wins out, of course. I have to stop writing now-I'vegot to run and get hold of Sandy's other books. A great read!
