This is the 8th book in the Death series. Robb just keeps getting better and better. Eve has to go after one or more killers who know what they are doing with a knife. Plus she has trouble with a bitter cop, who is determined to reck Eve's rep and lose her, her job. Roarke is there for Eve when the going gets tough. Keep a box of tissue's handy. I needed them. Its the first In Death book i really cried about. BRILL.

In this latest installment of the saga of Lt. Eve Dallas, a homicide detective, is confronted by a series of baffling murders -- someone is killing the "dregs of society," the homeless, prostitutes: people who the killer or killers think won't be missed. In each case, the bodies are found missing vital internal organs. The case is further complicated by a cop named Bowers who has an intense and irrational hatred for her. This book continues to reveal pieces of Eve's past. I hope that in subsequent installments we'll find out about her family. One immensely satisfying part of the story is Eve's relationship with her husband, the gorgeous, enigmatic, and passionate billionaire she first suspected of murder. I love the role reversal in their marriage, and how their love not only smooths down her rougher edges, but transforms him. I'm was grateful to see the redesigned cover. It's less exploitive and more interesting. However, the author and her readers are not well-served by sloppy proofreading. This is an ongoing problem which I hope the publisher will take steps to correct. New readers: please read the books in order from beginning to the current ones. You will be DELIGHTED!!

Did we read the same book? This was the most AWFUL piece of rubbish I have ever read. Basically, this book is about "THE-BEST-COP-IN-THE-WHOLE-WORLD" who is married to "THE-RICHEST-MAN-IN-THE-UNIVERSE". Just WHY she is the "best cop in the world" is not clear, but she must be because all the characters in the book keep repeating this mantra as though it is gospel. There is an interesting murder plot that develops at the beginning of the book, however, it transpires within the first three chapters that there is only one character that could have done it, thereby completely removing any form of suspense.

Shortly there is a ludicrous plot involving character assasination by a colleague and suddenly "THE-BEST-COP-IN-THE-WORLD"'s life is over even though she is married to "THE-RICHEST-MAN-IN-THE-UNIVERSE" who also happens to be "THE-BEST-LOOKING-MAN-IN-THE-UNIVERSE" and who gives her everything she ever wanted in her life. They have ridiculous relations over and over again. At one point "THE-BEST-COP-IN-THE-WORLD" says to her husband that she is not sure why she bothers being a police officer and, I must admit, I found myself wondering that myself, given that she is married to "THE-RICHEST-MAN-IN-THE-WORLD" and could probably do much better things to help the world. I found her character completely unbelievable and the extremes in the book just - well - too extreme.

I need to be fair, I do not like romance novels. "Conspiracy in Death" is a romance novel written by a romance writer, regardless of whether she writes under a pseudonym or not. The science fiction element of the novel is completely undeveloped and may as well not be part of the book. The crime element preoccupies approximately 1/5 of the book, the rest is about the life and loves of "THE-BEST-COP-IN-THE-WORLD".

I like crime novels to be about the crime, and I very seldom enjoy being regailed with the personal lives of the sleuths unless it has some relationship to the plot.
