3.0 out of 5 stars Me thinks this one's a keeper, 14 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Usually when I read romantic novels (of the bodice ripping bosom heaving variety) I don't keep them. It's always so embarassing if a friends come round and ask you what THIS is about and you have to say "Well, there's this Duke and this Maiden ...". But I think I just might keep this one. The humour is a bit predictable but it is humour and for someone who doesn't usually like historical novels this didn't dissapoint since the only historical detail in it is the occational reference to ... actually I was looking through my copy to find some historical detail and couldn't find any. It's probably just implied by the fact that will snatches our heroine off in a horse drawn carriage instead of his four wheel drive range rover. The speach patterns and situations are decidedly modern and of course hot sex is timeless. Of course the plot is hopelessly improbable but that's just part of the fun. It could have done without the unresolved mother/son relationship thingy and the almost senile scottish father lent a bit hard on the pathos, but I loved all the falling from speeding horses and running through the brackenness of it all. Silly, sexy, funny this one I keep.

This is the first book I've read by this author so I had no idea what I was in for when I bought it. Well, it gave me a wonderful surprise! The characters in the book & plot are wonderful. Grab it from the bookstores if you haven't yet.
