Review
Jim Butcher is a fresh and rare voice in a world determined to turn us all into guilt ridden eco-tourists. Don't go on your next holiday without it. - Dea Birkett, travel writer and author of 'Serpent in Paradise'

The Moralisation of Tourism is a long overdue and refreshingly bold critique of the politically-correct yet contested 'new tourism' paradigm. Original, thought-provoking and entertaining, it argues powerfully for a more pragmatic perspective on tourism; it is essential reading for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the role and meaning of tourism in global society. - Richard Sharpley, Northumbria University, UK

5.0 out of 5 stars tourism - a new perspective, 16 Dec 2002
This is a real eye opener. Most books on this subject seem to accept that that there is a need for tourists to be more ethically and environmentally aware. Jim Butcher questions this agenda, arguing against the view that tourism is destructive of cultures and environments. He argues that the claims of ecotourism to be morally superior to mass tourism are disingenuous, and that people should be able to enjoy guilt free holidays. Readable, intelligent and provocative - definitely worth a look.
