This readable and intelligent book covers all the relevant areas of practice and controversy in the field. A range of experienced practitioners contribute to give the most up-to-date overview and evidence-base available. Chapters cover policy, engagement of drug using women, ante-natal care, women's & wider family views, neo-natal abstinence syndrome and the social services perspective. Each player in the process tells their story, and so indirectly questions elements of current practice without blaming professionals for the diversity of their approach. It has broadened my understanding of some of the more contentious areas, and provides a sound base on which to develop better practice. It is a book that ultimately drug-using women and their babies will benefit from.
