Product Description

Product Description

Evolutionary Explanation of Human Behaviour is a unique introductory level book covering evolutionary psychology, a relatively new and controversial area of psychology.

From the Back Cover

In recent years, a new discipline has arisen that argues human behaviour can be understood in terms of evolutionary processes. Evolutionary Explanations of Human Behaviour is an introductory level book covering evolutionary psychology, this new and controversial field. The book deals with three main areas: human reproductive behaviour, evolutionary explanations of mental disorders and the evolution of intelligence and the brain. The book is particularly suitable for the AQA-A A2 syllabus, but will also be of interest to undergraduates studying evolutionary psychology for the first time and anyone with a general interest in this new discipline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful introduction gearded towards A-level students, 9 Jul 2008
I bought this a few years ago as an easy general introduction, and for that purpose it is very good. It is actually designed for A-level students taking evolutionary psychology as a module and is thus composed of compact chapters on each element in the syllabus together with summaries and revision questions. For A-level students therefore, essential reading, both as in introduction and as an end of course revision aid. The exam orientated approach might be offputting to the general reader simply wanting to get an idea of what the subject is about. Furthermore, as it follows the syllabus for a-level it is also a little narrow in scope compared to other introductions, for example there is nothing about evolutionary theories relating to morality or language (aside from brief mentions in the chapters on the evolution of intelligence and the brain).
There are still not a great many introductions to this exciting but fairly new (academically speaking) subject. This one is essential for A-level students, extremely good for those wishing to get a solid grasp of the basics, and very useful for the general reader.
