Review

'The most compendious collection of exercises and games ever assembled extraordinary.' - Peter Thomson, University of Exeter

'At last! A book for anyone interested in integrating acting and singing for all musical styles. Practical and imaginative ideas and exercises which are also fun. An enormous help for both the performer and teacher.' - Mary Hammond, West End vocal coach and Head of Musical Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music

'Very well thought out, clear and direct. It deals with fundamentals with a simplicity that is refreshing, in a world where complexity, convolution, and mystification are too often par for the course.' - Keith Turnbull, The Banff Centre for the Arts

'I would highly recommend this text to students, instructors and directors of musical and dramatic performance of any kind an immensely valuable resource.' - Kristen McDermott, Central Michigan University

4.0 out of 5 stars A practical book for any performance workshop!, 28 Oct 2002
By A Customer
I found this book an invaluable source of excersizes for our small (but ever growing) theatre group recently, when I ran a voice, rhythm and song workshop.
It covers a lot of popular games and excersizes (plus a lot more that none of us had ever tried before) that made for an enjoyable, educational and eye-opening afternoon.
Even though our group doesn't perform musicals, everything covered in this little book has a relevant purpose. Insight for the performer along with guidelines in the margin for the group leader, with tunes and rhythm excersizes in the back (if you want an accompaniment).
I would even recommend this book as a resource for any team-building requirements, as the sense of accomplishment by the end of the day was almost tangible!
A must for any aspiring workshop leader or director!
It is increadibly easy to read and understand, superbly laid out and presented. Each performance aspect starts with simple excersizes and progresses; often referring or elaborating on previous ones, and almost reads like a recipe book, listing requirements, objectives, length of excersize etc., also allowing the reader to jump to specific areas with ease.

So if you direct, if you've attended workshops for years or if you're just starting out on the stage, this book is a treasure.
