Product Description

Review

'An excellent text. It involves the student i - thinking about ethics and not just studying what philosophers have said about the subject. '

Accessibly and engagingly written' - Mark Walker, University of Birmingham

Clear and accurate in its account of the basic philosophical problems. With its accompanying electronic exercies, it provides a useful tool for students struggling to come to terms with the different meta-ethical positions' - Jeanette Kennett, Monash University

Product Description

Introduces the issues and controversies of contemporary moral philosophy to undergraduate students who have already done an introductory course in philosophy. The basic approaches to metaethics and normative ethics are related to specific issues but particularly those of racism, education, and abortion. Features include: boxed key ideas; glossary of technical terms; chapter summaries; study questions and computer exercises; and annotated further reading, including Internet web links and an associated website for teachers and students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for A-level, 16 April 2001
If you are starting this topic from scratch you should read this book first, before anything else, in order to give you a solid grouding upon which to build the more complex arguments you will find elsewhere. Gensler has suceeded in speaking clearly on ethical theories, a very rare gift in philosphical terms. This book is the ideal introduction for people who are unaccoustomed to the writing style of philosophy, but who need a grounding in the ideas. Ideal for the beginning or revision of philosophy A-level or the first week of an undergraduate course.
