One of the classic works on child sexual abuse, Tilman Furniss looks at the systems and processes at work - both within the child, the family, and the agencies involved. His emphasis is on consistency, honesty, and the understanding that work will involve a long, long haul. This may seem obvious, but there is evidently much scope for disastrous practice. The Handbook is well-structured, accessible, and guides the reader through a whole serious of problems and perspectives. This is not, however, a simple "how-to" book. The issues are laid out as philosophical questions and invite the reader to consider both the practical solution and the ethical, professional, and intellectual dimensions. Essential reading for any professional in the field.
