Product Description
Describes in depth all the Celtic languages from historical, structural and sociolinguistic perspectives, with individual chapters on Irish, Scottish, Gaelic, Manx, Welsh, Breton and Cornish.
From the Back Cover
An updated and comprehensive account of the Celtic languages, including historical aspects, grammatical descriptions and sociolinguistic accounts of the main languages of the family. Where appropriate, and particularly in Part 4, content will be revised in light of recent research, and to reflect demographic and other sociolinguistic changes; structurally the volume has changed to position all the historical material within Part 1, which will now include two new chapters (Chapter 3 on Old and Middle Irish and Chapter 4 on Old and Middle Welsh).
As with the first edition, this volume is intended as a course book for linguists and general readers interested in the historical development of the Celtic languages, their current linguistic make-up, and their status as minority and endangered languages. As before, this volume includes contributions from leading scholars in the field.
