Product Description

Review
'Sarah Kane's penultimate play is often considered her most lyrical work.' Time Out London - Tamara Gausi 'a writer who managed to extract beauty from the visions of moral squalor that plagued her.' Time Out London - Tamara Gausi

Product Description
Set in an unnamed city from which voices and images spring, Crave charts the disintegration of a human mind under the pressures of love, loss and desire "A hugely unnerving theatrical experience, shot through with the language of the Bible and a genuinely poetic richness" (Time Out) "A dramatic poem in the late-Beckett style, sometimes a chamber quartet for lost voices" (The Times) Produced by Paines Plough and Bright Ltd (Guy Chapman and Paul Spyker), Crave premiered at the Traverse Theatre for the 1998 Edinburgh Festival. It received its English premiere at the Royal Court Theatre in September 1998.

5.0 out of 5 stars A challenging play written by a tragic British playwright, 16 Sep 1999
By A Customer
Sarah Cane started her written carrer with 'Blasted' and after she had grown and matured as a playwright Crave was the last play she ever wrote before her tragic suicide in her twenty's. Crave explore's human nature, what every one of us is driven by and what they are searching for. Crave lets us step back and as the four voices discuss their needs and wants, the audience can distance themselves from the carictors emotionally and therefore have an overall opinion. Sarh Cane only wrote a few plays but if you belive that you are an open-minded new thespian start with reading Blasted and then read Crave. Unfortunatly, art often mirrors life and this is true of Sarah Cane and her work. Crave and all of her plays draw out a little more of her. When I read this play (finished only a short time before her death this March) I wonder- were her plays her way of telling us she was abused and had only so much more to give? Is this the way it should be? Another talented young artist can only 'let go' by death and we just read her plays on face value. Perhaps it is time we all read between the lines. Read Crave.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful work, 19 Nov 2006
By P. ANDREWS "book man" (Leeds, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This evocative read is a flood of Sarah Kane's emotions on paper. She has been very inspirational to many modern actors with her juxtaposed writing. As an audience we are unsure whether the actors are talking to themselves or each other as the text jumps from moments of speech. A must for any theatregoer and actor.
