A new breathtaking and horrible case - the series just get's better and better!!!, 25 Oct 2009
The horrible rape/murder of young and innocent Deena, daughter of Captain Jonah McMasters, shocks the whole NYPD. Instead of enjoying some much needed time with Roarke Eve has to deal with one of her worst cases.
It's soon clear to her that Deena was just means to an end and that her unspeakable suffering was a way to take revenge against her father, who's head of the NYPD drug squad.
Eve and her team work 24 hours to solve the case because they know that killing Deena was only the first act. Searching in McMasters past brings them closer to the killer but not near enough to prevent a second horrible rape/murder. Now it's up to Eve and her team to outwit the murderer and rescue his next victims.
"Kindred in Death" is an awesome book but it was still hard to read for me. The murders are just so brutal and horrible and because I'm a big sissy I had to force myself to read through the really bad parts. The book plays within a few days but there are so many bad things happening that it seems longer. The search for the killer is breathtaking and I couldn't lay the book down before they finally had him.
One thing was clear after the first few pages. There will never be justice for the torture, rape and murder of an innocent, young girl and of a bride just days before her wedding. Sometimes life just sucks and to accept it is not always easy.
The books focuses mainly on the case but there are still some private and funny moments (thank god for that). I especially enjoyed reading about the preparations for the upcoming wedding of Charles and Louise. Of course Eve doesn't understand or even cares about all the small details regarding the wedding and it's so funny when she has to deal with them. But still she is a loyal and good friend for Louise when it come's to the important things (even if it means that she has to deal with Trina).
Roarke is like he is 99% of the time - just perfect. He and Summerset are very affected by the murders because they remind them of what Marlena had to endure. Roarke works hard to help Eve deal with the case and her own memories.
For the first time in the series Eve seems to get a better handle on her violent and disturbing dreams. She realizes that compared to Deena she was lucky enough to be able to defend herself against her father. Because of that she finally seems to understand that killing her father was not bad at all. To be honest I had to cry when reading this scene because it's something I wished for Eve to realize for so long.
It's also nice to meet Jamie Lingstrom again and to see how his life has changed. He's still so sure about being a cop after college. I guess this time Roarke will have to accept defeat because he just can't lure Jamie with his money.
So all in all "Kindred in Death" is an awesome book and J.D. Robb continues to amaze me. Even after 30 books the series just get's better and better and is never boring or just average.
But still I'm very relieved that "Fantasy in Death" (coming January, 2010) will deal with a different kind of murder.

Time for Eve Dallas to get pregnant., 16 Nov 2009
I have always been a hugh JD ROBB/Eve Dallas fan, always preorder and have all the books on audio as well as in book form. I have listened and read each copy many times but I was highly diappointed with this book and can't imagine buying it on audio or rereading it.
It totally lacks all personnal interaction, from verbal sparring with Summerset, to the loud encounters with Mavis and her fear of Baby Bella. Even her time with Nadine was off and the love scenes with Roarke were old married couple. I even think the crime investigation didn't have the interactions they normally do, no Crack, no hookers, or funky junkies.
I'm not saying don,t read it, it's a JD ROBB, just wait until it comes out in the cheaper smaller paperback.
JD ROBB once said that when she finally got Eve pregnant she wouldn't write about her any more and I think its time to get her pregnant or try and put the fun back into the serise.

Another great addition to the series...but a little low on...., 29 Oct 2009
the relationships between the characters, which makes this series so great. The previous reviewer has gone into the plot in some detail, and amazon.co.uk has a lot of blurb on the purchase page of the book for once (well done, amazon.co.uk; great to see so much of this, more like the US site), so I am not going to reiterate it...but...
don't get me wrong - I am a huge JD Robb fan and preordered this book last December, and got it at 1910hrs on 28/10/09 and read it by 2245hrs. It was typical of the author and the Eve Dallas series - a brutal murder, a fast-moving case, barely any physical evidence to work with, and a plotline that was not immediately evident. But, for me, what it was lacking in is the personal relationships that make some of the other books Keepers over this one: we barely get to see any interaction between Eve and Roarke (perhaps 1/2 instances), and there are no scenes between Peabody & McNab, or between Mavis and Leonardo, there is no real personal interaction between Eve and her team, though in the epilogue, we find them all dressed in their finery for Louise's and Charles' wedding. The banter that normally exists betweeen Eve and Peabody over the latter's relationship with McNab, and which makes for much of the humour in the series was non-existent, and Leonardo doesn't even appear at all, though he has designed the bridal outfits; we do get a token glimpse of Mavis and baby Bella en route to the wedding. Also missing was Eve's horror at haivng to do girly stuff, at being prodded and preened by Trina, the formidable beautician, in anticipation of the wedding - which is always makes for funny and enjoyable scenes. Galahad, another member of the team had 1.5 scenes (he appears on the bed whilst Eve and Roarke are snuggling on page 1, then appears at the top of the stairs once, seemingly standing in for Summerset who's out for the evening). Which reminds me, there's hardly any of the witty and pseudo-mean repartees between Eve and Summerset, and when we do have 1/2, both protagonists seem to feel that their responses were lacking in heat (we get treated to their thoughts). The series is great, and the book did not disappoint other than this, but it's the gang that we know and love that makes the team work so well, and therefore the series work so well, and in this respect, it was a lacking. Still, I will always get Eve Dallas books, there's no question of that...though, fleetingly, I did wonder whether JD Robb might be considering winding down the series, culminating in Eve and Roarke having a family together? After all, Eve had little Bella on her lap for more than nanoseconds and there was none of the normal horror she displays, none of the panic...Personally, I'd love to see them with a family, and I recall that Roarke does want one, whenever Eve's ready, but yes, that would mean the end of the series, but what a way to end: on a high, with all the successes Eve has had, and a true HEA....JD Robb, I'm a real romantic and a great fan, so bring it on!
