5.0 out of 5 stars Takes the gobbledy gook out of psychotherapy!, 25 April 2000
By A Customer
This is a landmark book, beginning to connect physiology and neural network theory with psychology. Having done post-graduate work in computer science, learning theory, and psychotherapy, I find her to be sound on all three fronts. As a psychotherapy client of some years' standing, I find it explains a lot about my experience of building new more effective patterns to replace older less effective ones. All the experienced therapists to whom I have given copies, including instructors on my course, have found it to be very interesting and consistent with their experience. Well worth reading -- and enjoyable/accessible to boot.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poppycock!, 30 April 1998
By A Customer
This book starts out rationally enough, but soon deteriorates into some annoying quasi-scientific posturing. Psychoanalysis is compelling and convincing without the 'data' - much of it questionable - Vaughan cites. The wonder, the mystery, and the beauty of her topic are subsumed by her gimmicky neurobiological slant. Many of her theories are unprovable. The specious science is a little scary - she's a psychiatrist, and ought to know better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Written at a very sophomoric level - not recommended., 28 Dec 1998
By A Customer
Although the theme sounds interesting, the author has very little of depth to add. She's more interested in expounding on how important she is to her patients and how clever she is at deciphering their dreams.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight
With the word "Psychotherapy" in its title - it is without doubt a lightweight on the subject and adds nothing to the understanding of the practice of therapy. Read more
