This book is very cleverly written, and is a wonderful story. A young couple come to believe that their young daughter is the re-incarnation of someone who died in a car crash many years before. Audrey Rose (the name of the daughter), was born on the same date of the same year, at the same time that the other girl died. This book shows how the family are convinced this is the case, until they finally go to a hypnotist to find out the truth. There is a very suprise ending! Read this, and you will understand!!

I read this book when it was first released some thirty odd years ago, and I really enjoyed it at the time. In rereading it, I find that I enjoyed it less the second time around.

The story line is fairly simple. Elliot Hoover is a distraught man who lost his wife and five year old daughter, Audrey Rose, years ago in a car accident in Pennsylvania, where they lived at the time. The car went up in a ball of flames with his little girl trying unsuccessfully to get out. He now firmly believes that his daughter has been reborn in the body of another little girl, Ivy Templeton, who lives with her parents in New York. He believes that his daughter was reincarnated too soon and now lives in torment in Ivy's body.

The book details Elliot Hoover's efforts to help his daughter, and the Templeton's efforts to help theirs. Some parts of the book are interesting, while other parts drag on at times. I was not sorry when the book ended. Still, those who enjoy books with supernatural portents or who are interested in the topic of reincarnation will derive some enjoyment from this book.
