4.0 out of 5 stars Crammed with invaluable betting advice and a great read!, 23 Jun 2001
Although this book is written from the American perspective on racing and some of the information it is based on (such as sectional timing) is not available for races here, there is still enough priceless information contained within that should make this a must for anyone who is serious about making money from horseracing, especially if you are interested in AW racing and speed figures.

Beyer writes with intelligence and clarity with the added bonus of being a great story teller, he has the ability to take you with him on his journey and make you feel part of the action.

The main crux of the book is about trip handicapping which is about predicting how a race will actually be run in order to determine which horse will be the likely winner. There are informative chapters on the Art of Watching Races, Draw Biases, Pace and Relating Speed Figures to the way the race was run.

The chapter entitled Modern Betting Strategy offers excellent advice on how to bet especially if you are interested in playing the more exotic wagers such as the exacta and really made me think about what constitutes a good betting opportunity.

The book is also packed with anecdotes and great racing stories that make it a fascinating read.

This book changed the way I thought about horseracing and I would not hesitate to recommend that you read it especially if you are a fan of Nick Mordin's writing.
