Synopsis
An entirely rewritten version of the best-selling 1979 edition, this text describes ways to improve generalisations about causal propositions. Emphasis is on design elements rather than design and on studying external validity. The authors have avoided the usual pitfall of heavy statistical data and instead have included brief paragraphs and occasional chapter appendices about data analysis. Extended treatment has been given to randomised experiments - examining their logic and design and practical problems and solutions in their implementation.
