4.0 out of 5 stars Good for general interest, essential for managers, 24 Jun 2005

(REAL NAME)
I studied several parts of this book during an undergraduate course in social psychology. It's an interesting read, made up mostly of historical case studies. The case studies are interesting enough in themselves to warrant buying a copy of this book; they include analyses of the bay of pigs fiasco and the cuban missile crisis.

Later sections in the book provide advice for people in similar positions on how to avoid being a victim of group think. As well as being a classic of social psychology, Janis' book is essential reading for anyone who has ever had to make a decision under pressure, especially people in management positions or politicians.
